David Palmer’s path into healthcare transformation started on the front lines, long before he ever stepped into an improvement role. He began his career in central supply at UC Davis Medical Center and eventually found himself in the Neonatal ICU, where supporting the care of fragile newborns gave him a sense of purpose he hadn’t experienced before. That experience led him into Operational Excellence, where he encountered the Shingo Model, scientific thinking, and a team committed to making care better. The work resonated deeply enough that he pursued graduate study through the Shingo Institute, shaping his belief that improvement, when done well, creates a win for patients, employees, and organizations.

David’s perspective is rooted in what he has lived: the frustrations of frontline work, the energy that comes from watching teams align around a shared target state, and the conviction that culture sits at the center of every organization. He helps leaders strengthen their ability to notice issues clearly, reflect with intention, and empower those closest to the work to drive meaningful change. He joined Value Capture in August 2025.

Outside of his advisory work, he stays grounded by seeking out water, great food, live sports, stand‑up comedy, and anything that sparks curiosity, adrenaline, or growth. His career has been a long search for meaningful work, and he sees healthcare transformation as the strongest fit yet.
