Mark Graban is widely known for his profound dedication to and deep experience in employing Lean principles and statistical methods to help leaders, professionals and frontline staff embed continuous improvement throughout their organizations.

Since 2005, he has focused on helping healthcare leaders create the systems, define the measures and deploy the tools to improve quality of care, patient safety and experience; develop medical professionals and employees; and, build strong organizations for the long term. Mark is internationally recognized as a leading author and speaker on Lean healthcare. His first book, Lean Hospitals: Improving Quality, Patient Safety, and Employee Engagement, was, in 2009, the first healthcare book selected for a Shingo Research and Professional Publication Award. Mark co-authored Healthcare Kaizen: Engaging Front-Line Staff in Sustainable Continuous Improvements, which also was a Shingo Research Award recipient. His most recent book is titled Measures of Success: React Less, Lead Better, Improve More.

Mark has partnered with a wide variety of departments in hospitals in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia. Among these collaborations are:  designing and coaching sustainable methodologies to implement continuous improvement practices; supporting staff-driven improvement methodologies and designing management systems; working with emergency and surgical departments in improvement processes and space design; participating in “Lean design” for the build-out of a new patient care tower, including process and space design collaboration with architects and the design team; and, helping leaders and staff analyze and address systemic patient and work flow problems.

Mark is producer and host of our podcast, Habitual Excellence. In addition to working with clients, Mark is also the firm's Director of Strategic Marketing.
